Yes, egg is fertilized by a sperm. This fertilization takes place in the fallopian tubes where egg comes after ovulation. Only one sperm is needed for the fertilization but normal sperm count in men is in millions because out of these millions sperms, thousands reach near egg and they all secrete an enzyme which dissolve shell of the egg and then one sperm can penetrate in the egg causing fertilization.
