We often vacation with in laws. We plan everything, pay for the resort, and some of the meals. My SIL has a bad habit of inviting her friends and family, this time she invited 2 of her friends to join us. Do you find this rude?

If you are into giving out charity vacations BOY we could use one! Sign me up for a family of 6!

Sound silly? Sorry for being blunt but it is rude of her to invite two friends on your dime unless you said "hay sis! You are always so bored on these family vacations. Why don't you invite 2 friends to come with you?"

If you haven't laid down ground rules for this vacation, now would be a good time to start. If those friends are staying on someone else's dime, that presents a problem of resentment in the ranks as someone has to pay for their food, etc. While they enjoy everything for free.

The first time my SIL would have tried to pull this stunt, I could have had my hand out for their portion of the expenses. Now that she's done it before, she thinks it's ok.

Set ground rules. Get everyone's approval on the rules. Tell SIL to cough up her share for the extra people she brought in on the vacation. If she's rude enough to bring extra folks without getting an okay, I would be okay in being firm on setting a boundary, but that's just me.

No one can take advantage of you without your permission.

If you pay, you get the say.

Either don't vacation with In-laws anymore or set some up some much needed communication as to the expectations . . . .
