Honey someone who tells you their life issues right away is a big red flag! Some people aren't looking for a relationship they're looking for help. He's probably very toxic, you should move on.
Should I text this guy again? I met this guy at a bar and he started talking to me. When I got up to leave he asked me to take his phone number and to text him. He did say that he is having problems and it might take a while for him to text back.

Sounds like he has a significant other and likes the thrill of the secrecy behind cheating. (Even if it is just texting for now.)
He asked you to text him and then said he had problems and might not be able to get back to you for a while. Do you really want to start a relationship with someone who wants you to do the running then is warning you he won't respond for how long........?
Ditch his number and find someone who is free and eager to have a normal relationship with you because this guy sounds as though he's got somebody else right now but he wants to keep you on the back burner in case things don't work out.
Sounds like he is just trying to add you to his personal "girl" inventory.
I agree that he's probably just a collector or girls' numbers. He could text you if he was interested .. Busy or not. I wouldn't spend a lot of time waiting for that though.
