Call him up or text him and ask him if he would be interested in meeting up with you. If he hesitates, you can tell him you would be willing to drive halfway to meet up. If he still hesitates, you might ask if he's interested in getting together.
If he says no, it's not a good time right now, then you thank him for thinking about it and to let you know when things change. You can try again next month, but take your cues from his behavior and what he says either to you on the phone or via text messages.
The distance might be too great right now financially for him. If you are ever in his neighborhood, you can try and plan a visit with him, but see what his response is when you offer to meet him halfway. Good luck.
