Different people express love differently to their loved ones. For him probably a controlled shoulder bite around your shoulder seems to be the only option he has developed to demonstrate, he really cares for you and loves  you deeply. I t would be good to accept his feelings and gradually find out if this is what counts to him and also as long as it doesn't cause unnecessary pain, why not accept it. Good luck in your relationship.

Well. If he repeatedly bites you there softy, in the same spot. It might turn into something that looks like a hickie. Although it isn't a real hickie, it might start to look like one.
But it is considered a love bite. So if it doest hurt you, or bother you, then its something your partner does to show affection, and you should be proud of it!
