When I was growing up back in the 1940s very few Australian homes had telephones so people communicated by telegram.

In one form or another the telegraph service continued until the 1990s when it was scrapped.

As you can see, the old typewriters we used to copy them from the Morse lines were pretty rough, as were some of the people who used them.

Oh, yeah. We have better ways of doing things now. But Otis, where were all the conservationists beating their breasts about endangered jobs when we needed them? Never heard a single protest from the Greens about the passing of Morse code. :(

The only time I wore that size was when I was in college and couldn't afford to eat. If my roommate didn't work for a catering company that allowed her to leftovers home, I don't know what I would have done.
