My HS senior prom was many, many moons ago. I really do not remember most of it but there is one moment I think I will remember for the rest of my life. I didn't have a date for the prom and was not really going. But mom talked to a friend of hers who had a daughter in the school who also wasn't going. They decided we should go together. Not so much as a date but as friends going to a party. Long story short. After about four songs the band played a slow dance. I asked her to dance and we danced. It wasn't too long when we realized we were the only couple dancing. When the music stopped we received a thunderous round of applause that seemed to last forever. I thought we must have been the best dancers around. It wasn't till the following Monday in school that I realized the reason for the fuss. We were the first "mixed couple" ever to attend the prom and the fist to ever dance at the prom. We apparently broke every unwritten rule in the book.
