How Long Does It Take For Toddlers To Drown?

How long does it take for a 2 year old to drown. I was scooping poo of the bottom of our pool and my neighbour was watching my toddler I heard a voice scream at me to check my son and sure enough he was drowning three steps away from me. When I pulled him out he was still breathing and crying but was very purple and had a bloated drowning look about him. It is really disturbing me not knowing how long he would have been under for. He started throwing up what seemed like a whole swimming pool of water we took him to hospital he had developed pneumonia and had very low oxygen levels. He is still recovering 4 weeks later but he has no long term damage. Does anyhow know how long he would have been under for this would really help me move on from what has happened. Many thanks.
