If your teacher knows and does not tell then if anything happens and they find out the teacher knows that makes him/her a accessory so I would say yes they have to tell counselor or someone without a shadow of doubt and you want someone to know that is why you told the teacher if you indeed told the teacher, that is away of you asking for help.....good luck how the teacher handles it I can not say...

I think if you say you've self harmed before but don't do it any more they don't have to say. If you say you're going to go home and self harm they have to say something. The rules are that if you are doing something that could seriously harm you, or anyone else, they have to tell someone. Self harm can go wrong so they would have to tell someone.

Hey
I know I'm bit late answering this question but when I told my teacher I self-harmed she only told the teacher in charge of child protection who told one of the mentors in our school so only 3 people know. They did advise me to tell my parent but didn't force me so they don't know. I told my teacher sometime last year and my parents still don't know so I suppose it depends on the circumstances x

I think they have to because what if you do something that almost kills you, they would have to say they knew and would get told of for not telling your parents. Plus they can't really do anything about it without your parents consent. I hope all goes well. Xx. When I told a teacher I self harmed they haven't told my parents......yet. But that was only like a week ago, and I bet they will because even though everyone is telling me to stop I can't, as you may have noticed. I am not ready to stop I need it and if I can't do it I may end up killing myself:'(

It depends on the rules they have where you live. In California teachers are required by law to tell your parents if you are in danger of hurting yourself or others. If they do tell your parents, that's actually a good thing because it is a first step to help you. Don't get mad at the teacher if they do tell-- they are just trying to help you out. Good luck!!

They are actually made by law to tell them

If they don't and you die, they can get done and be sent to prison
