That all depends on the situation.  When my sister was in camp, my parents just took me on a summer vacation.  Normally, we all went .. But she was happy at camp so it was fine.

Was your sister older or younger than you ? That may have made a difference. And what camp was your sister in?

She was younger. What camp she went to is immaterial. She spent a few weeks at camp in the summer. I didn't choose to go so I went with my parents on a short trip while she was gone.

If you have several children and you're excluding one from the vacation event, I would have to say no, unless, of course, there is one heck of a good reason for the exclusion.

This exclusion would be really hurtful for the child, in my opinion, however, you've given no facts, so I can't offer more than that.

If you have only one child, and you wish to have a vacation without the child, that's perfectly fine. There should be times in the marriage where the marriage comes first and the couple has the chance to reconnect and have down-time without the children around.

If one kid is on a school trip, is it ok to take the other one on vacation?

If a trip to Disney World is planned, my answer would be no, it wouldn't be okay. That's a big trip and almost every kid would want to go. Otherwise, I think it would be okay. But every family is different; every kid is different. Is the other parent ok with this?
