Dear Eugene Harrigan,

I am going to say no, but with qualifications...

It is told that Socrates bemoaned the advent of writing because of its effect on our minds (although I am unsure that was his true context).

And in her 1963 novel THE SCENT OF WATER, Elizabeth Goudge comments on the Industrial Revolution, "they have stolen our silence."

Somehow we must all see through the problems that arise, make the technology work to our advantage, and direct our own human destiny in the direction of love, for which we were made.

Thats hard to say. Thats like saying older people were too Dependant on newspapers or people were too Dependant on electricity or people were too Dependant on mailmen.

Its all perspective no matter what era we are in there will always be something everyone seems to be doing too much. Moderation is key regardless.
