Me and my two buddies were pulled over and the officer says he pulled me over due to my light being to dem on my license plate. Then he pulls me out the car and tells me he can smell marijuana and tells me to tell him where it is. When he pulled us over my friend (front seat passenger) panics and stuffs it in the glove box. So I told the officer that it's in the glove box. He asked me if there was anything I should know about and I said no that is it. So he pats me down and I was cleared and he had me sit down on the curb. While that was happening my Friend took the weed back out and stuffed it in his pants, the officer pulls him out and pats him down and finds the half ounce of weed that belongs to him. He just turned 18 so he was automatically cuffed and put in the police car. He pulls my friend out that was in the back seat and asked him if he had anything that he should know about and my friend said no. He pats him down and sat him on the curb next to me. He tells me he's going to search the car and this is our last chance to confess... He searches my car and finds nothing but a pack of swisher sweets (that belonged to my friend that was of age to buy) We are both 17 years old and the officer asked for our address and parents number and told us that we are being charged for possession of marijuana and that we need to tell our parents because they have to be at court with us. He never wrote me any type of citation or ticket, and never called and told my parents and I'm only a minor. My court paper comes in a week later and it says I'm being charged with possession of marijuana and for having in possession a pack of swishers, because I'm not of age to have them. But the thing is the weed wasn't mine and neither was the pack of swishers. Did the officer mess up? Is there anyway I can beat this? I'm also willing to take a drug test as well.

I'm not a lawyer, but you may not get an answer from one until you actually hire one and he can talk to you.

The "too dim" illumination of the license plate is what the officer is citing to justify the traffic stop in the first place.

Usually, the law assumes (for practicality issues) that the weed belongs to everyone in the car.

How that actually gets sorted out in reality depends on the judge and your lawyer.

I  know you're kind of freaked, but give things a bit of time to sort themselves out.

This is unlikely to "ruin" your life, but I would suggest you stop skating so close to the edge of the cliff in the future.
