I sure think so ! My Hound can pick out the good and the bad with no problem. When he wags his tail at someone, they're OK. But when he growls, then I know they aren't !

I really believe it to be true.

My everybody -loving dog met a man once. My dog growled at him which was highly unusual because my dog loves everyone. The man barely spoke. My dog had an instant reaction just at first sight of this man.

Turns out this man was later charged with a gun shooting. Somehow my dog knew that he was not a good person !!!

I am not sure about cats, but dogs definitely. I dated a guy who had a wonderful dog. This dog did not like one of his friends. The friend showed up while he was out and his sister was home alone with the dog and dog would not let him in. We thoght it was odd but didn't think much more about it. A couple of years later the guy was arrested for attacking a woman. I will always follow my dogs' lead when it comes to meeting people.

I'm not sure if they are better judges of people or not, but I do know they can be prejudiced. I had a dog when I lived on the island of Guam that hated the local males (Chamorros). I never understood why, we had many friends that were Chamorro, but when the men would come by our dog would go nuts and nearly try to bite them. The women she was ok with, but the guys we had to usually get her out of the room. Oddly it actually was just Chamorro men, Phillipeno men, or other asians she had no issue with.

Hitler had both a dog and a girlfriend.

I would consider neither to be necessarily representative of the breed, but I would hesitate to draw any generalities from that one example.
