Chances are … your parents are requiring you to obey the law.  Most states require bicyclists to wear helmets - and you can be ticketed if you don't.

I wanted to write more and say that I do love my parents and completely understand why they make me wear one, it's just these high schoolers and even some of my former friends make fun of me and it makes it hard for me to really make the decision to ride with one. Thanks alot for you and everyone else for responding it means alot to me!

Thank you all very much, this morning I rode my bike before school (with my helmet) and I had a blast riding again, it means alot to me about what you said and I don't really feel super self conscious anymore! 😃

Helmets are cool, really. They come in all colors and styles. It is the safe and legal thing to do and the people harassing you are basically immature jerks. Wearing a helmet beats the possible alternative. Brain damage or death. Your choice.

You know you're cool when someone makes fun of you. Ignore the haters. Wear the helmet. If you crash without a helmet, the consequences can be really harsh.

So learn to ignore the people that poke fun. I know that's hard, but have confidence in what you're doing (wearing the helmet), because it's the right thing to do for yourself and for your family and it's the law in many states.

Wear a helmet!  Your parents don't want to see you brain dead in a hospital, wondering if they should donate your organs because you hit your head. And the jerks in school won't come to visit you.

Keep in mind .. The behaviour of these 'jerks' reflects unkindly on them ... Not you.

There will always be 'jerks' around .. And as you age, you will find that their opinion or even their acceptance and approval will become less and less important to you.  Who gives a rat's patoutie what THEY think?  This is the time to hone your skills about who you want to include in your life and who you don't.  Judge for yourself .. and allow only positive and respectable people to influence you .. not negative and destructive. It really is a matter of choice .. YOUR choice how you want to allow them to control your behaviour and activities.

Wearing a helmet is a responsible and wise thing to do. It has a purpose, clearly. It is at least an attempt to protect your head and brain .. If THEY don't think it's cool then THEY can take all the chances they want with the safety of their brain.  Don't let their irresponsibilty affect your choices.

I once flipped over on my bike.  If not for my helmet, my head would have smashed like a watermelon.  Your life is far more important than a bunch of trash talkers.

Um well that kid's weird. People usually wear helmets on bikes don't they. Maybe he's making fun of what your helmet looks like. Anyway, it's good to take things with a grain of salt and brush it off. If you're happy who cares?
