You can turn it into a good situation, though. Instead of feeling rejected or sad, you can talk to him next time you see him. Like, go "hey, sorry about that message. I don't know what came over me haha" and stuff like that. See how he feels about it, usually people give feedback about stuff if you go on casually about it.
