What's a good verse about love that my friend could read aloud at her daughter's wedding dinner in England next week? She plans to say a few words & then  read something inspiring. Maybe a good song lyric might do.>A good poem, famous or not.

She says not any Bible verse.

Well this is kind of about love, but filtered through Ogden Nash's unique sense of humour. It might just be appropriate anyway.

To keep your marriage brimming
With love in the loving cup,
Whenever you're wrong, admit it;
Whenever you're right, shut up.

Mr Happy is himself a wise man. But before he gets too enthusiastic I suppose I should add the title of that verse (which I deliberately omitted)> It's called "Advice to Husbands."

@Kay: I don't know that one. I must chase it up.

And Cate: he wrote some wonderful stuff. Some seems silly these days -- the world has changed since his day -- but some will endure. Like this one, I guess.

Lovely, thank you. Typical Nash. I bookmarked it. :D

Near and far, near and far,
I am happy where you are;

Likewise I have never larnt
How to be it where you aren't.

Close Close All Night by Elizabeth Bishop

Close close all night

the lovers keep.

They turn together

in their sleep,

close as two papers

in a book

that read each other

in the dark.

Each knows all

the other knows

learnt by heart

from head to toes.

Not sure if it is too intimate for the brides mum though. I like it.

Don't know if this is qualified but:

"Time is very slow for those who wait

Very fast for those who are scared

Very long for those who lament

Very short for those who celebrate

But for those who love time is eternal"

-William Shakespeare
