Get your date a corsage. It's a flower bracelet. Then you get yourself a flower to pin onto your suit make sure the colors match. Get yourself a suit or tux since proms are formal. You could buy your date some flowers.
And usually before prom you go out to dinner with your date. Somewhere nice.
You could get a limo. But, that might be too fancy.
