According to a Pew Research poll (they are considered to be very reputable) 77% of French people believe homosexuality should be accepted in society compared to only 60% of Americans.  The Pew Research believes this is directly correlated with religion.

France has a long history of being liberal in terms of LGBTQPA+ rights.  All anti-sodomy laws were repealed during the French Revolution in 1791.  There have been laws preventing discrimination of the LGBTQPA+ community in France since 1985.  Same sex marriage was legalize in 2013.  France is considered to be one of the most gay friendly countries in the world.
