How can I get my dad to not be rude? HELP I was doing my homework and my sister was practicing her singing because she is in choir (like REALLY intense choir) and all of a sudden my dad yells ''shut up!!!"
As a dad, I can tell you that sometimes we're rude without meaning to offend or upset anyone.
Being a dad can be pretty stressful, and when you've got lots on your mind - sometimes the smallest thing can trigger an over-reaction.
That said, a dad is also responsible for teaching his kids about manners, patience, and how to respect others - so telling people to "shut up" doesn't sound like a great idea!
There are a couple of things you can do to get him to realize the error of his ways though:
1. Tell mom
2. The guilt trip - Go over to him when he's in a better mood and tell him how much his words hurt your feelings. Put on your best 'soppy eyes' and see how bad he feels then!
3. Write him a letter - for some reason, grown ups seem to take written complaints more seriously. This is something that seemed to work when I was a kid anyway...
