I'm a mother and teacher.  I've always been fascinated by the idea that imagination and creativity are a native part of who we are; moreover, it's through childhood play that we learn creative techniques
to help us through out our lives.  When kids are involved in
stimulating, self directed play they get a chance to innovate  and use
their motor skills in unique ways.  It's exciting to watch as they
investigate ways to challenge themselves.

I read a lot for my teaching and for ideas to encourage children.   The
other day I began reading at the website of the Early Learning Center
about how creative play enhances motor skills and creative thinking.  I
am reminded of basic and easy ways to spark imagination through play.

So, when I set-up a child's playroom or play corner at school with
creative toys it is with the purpose to kindle their innate sense of
imagination.  For example, I use toys like: 'Knights and Castles',
'Farms and Animals', 'Doll Houses', 'Kitchens Sets' and 'Workshops'. It
feels like setting the scene for a production!  Adorable
puppets
ignite imaginary adventures, and all the time little hands are in
motion improving those so very important motor skills!
