Sounds like the beginning of a stalker to me. Delete his texts without reading them. Give him no response and maybe he'll get the message. If he doesn't drop him. You probably know how to block him from your phone, but as long as you allow him to push your buttons, he will. Again, DO NOT READ THE TEXTS, JUST DELETE, and then you don't have to be irritated. You will be the bigger person.
