The average weight of a baby is really difficult to answer! Given that all babies are different, are born at different weights, and will all mature differently, you can never be too sure as to the precise weight your baby needs to be at around five months old. You can be sure, however, that your baby will be between 10 and 20 lbs. This might seem like a large different, but the fact is that all babies are incredibly difficult!

It’s understandable that you want to make sure that your baby is healthy when it is growing, but you can’t get worried if your child is different to your friend’s child, or indeed if your child is currently heavier or lighter than another child that you might have had.

It’s generally accepted that an infant should gain around half a pound every single week, and after six months should have reached double the weight that they were when they were born.

There are many resources online that can help you figure out whether your child is growing healthily, by providing you with charts and calculators, comparable to a BMI chart. If you really want to make sure that your child is healthy, then keep looking at these charts, and make sure that your visit your paediatrician once every month. They will be keeping track of the growth of your child, and are the best source of information when it comes to the child’s health.

If there’s a problem, then the paediatrician is the best person to tell you, and will help you find solutions as to how you can help your child start growing more healthily. Remember not to worry about your child if they are different to another child you’ve seen. You really can’t predict the precise weight of a child at any age.

Internationally, the scale of age, height and weight is fixed for boys and girls separately. For 6 months old boy baby, height should be 25-25.8 inches and weight should be 13.75-20.75 lb. For girl baby of 6 months, the height should be 24.25-27.75 and weight should be 12.75-19.25 lb.

Our little man was 8.11 born and 19.11 at 4 months but he is a big boy. As long as your little one is a happy healthy baby it doesn't matter though :)

My little guy was 8.10 at birth...is now 5 months old...weighing 18.6 and is 28.5 in. He is in the 95th percentile for length. At his 4 months was considered to be above the 50th percentile for weight, weighing 16.4 but now I think is in the 75th percentile for weight like he was in his is two month appt.   Everyone thinks he is a big and strong boy...I'm still exclusively breast feeding.
