You should not have taken the morning after pill before you have sex. The morning after pill is a form of emergency contraception that should not be used lightly. It is necessary that you take the pill within 72 hours after having unprotected sex and is an incredibly effective way of preventing fertilisation. In your case you should go straight to your doctor or sexual health clinic to discuss the problem that you are having - you really are meant to take the pill after you have had sex.

The high dose of hormones that comes in the pill will trick your body into thinking that it's time for your period. Once you have had the second of the two pills your period will soon begin. The bleeding is often heavier than your normal period, too. Hence, you're going to need a good supply of tampons and pads before you take the pills.

Apart from this heavy flow of blood, you will experience a number of other menstruation-related symptoms. These symptoms, however, will be magnified. Cramps will be more intense, as well as the level of discomfort in the stomach. You could feel sick and dizzy, as well as mentally foggy. Many people even develop back ache, too. These effects should last just as long as your period normally does, so if you have any medication that can reduce the pain associated with your period then just take what you would normally take to help your period pain.

Remember to just go and see your doctor about any issues you are having and they will be able to help you along the way in learning how to properly use contraception and practice safe sex in the future.

Okay I have a question? What if you took the pill at 8:30 in the morning but you had sex at midnight, is the pill still effective

It's a "morning after" pill, not a "night before" pill. It may prevent pregnancy if taken within 72 hours after a single act of intercourse. What most people don't stop to think about is that a woman can be become pregnant during a four or five day period only each month. If she is not ovulating at the time of intercourse, she can't become pregnant even if she doesn't take the morning after pill.

The morning after pill will remain in your system for a few days, and you will have some side effects, which include nauseau and cramping.  It is still not safe to have sex right away, if you have sex again, you may have to take another dose which is not recommended as the morning after pill imitates pregnancy to prevent a fertile egg from implanting.  Best to use other form of birth control. Morning after pill is to be used only in emergencies

The morning after pill should not be used as a contraceptive,it is merely a precaution if your other forms of contraception have not worked (e.g the condom tears), it's not healthy to be ingesting it as a normal contraceptive pill, thats why the 'pill" and the injection exists.
